English is the most dominant language in the world and the preferred medium of Instruction in the majority of Universities and Colleges in the World. While most Universities in Europe, USA, Australia and New Zealand require that you have a basic English Proficiency Qualification before applying for admission, it is not a prerequisite in Asia. Some Colleges and Universities, however, waver off these exams provided English is your first language. Some of the most important and most popular International Entrance Exams include IELTS, GMAT, SAT, GRE, and TOEFL.

IELTS

IELTS simply stands for International English Language Testing System. It is used to test English proficiency across the globe. For non-native English speakers, it is mandatory. For entry into most reputed Universities and Colleges abroad, and occasionally for Immigration, IELTS is required. A country like Canada requires an individual who seeks to Immigrate to the Country to write IELTS. Conducting. It is the World’s most popular English Testing System and Conducts 1.5 million tests Globally. Held in over 600 centers within 4 times a month, an IELTS score is valid for 2 years. Regardless of your country or first language you can sit for the test and come out tops if you study hard. Whether you want to Work, Study or Migrate, you can choose between two types of tests; Academic or General. Both Modules consists of 4 parts Writing, Reading, Listening, and Speaking. IELTS results are graded on the unique IELTS 9-band scale.

TOFEL

To test an Individuals ability to use and understand the English language in Academic setting, TOFEL is used. TOFEL simply stands for The Test of English as a Foreign Language. It is usually held on weekends throughout the Year. For Non-Native English Speakers who desire to study in an English Medium University or College, TOFEL is a prerequisite for admission. Other bodies which might require this test include Businesses, Scholarship Programs or Government Agencies.
A TOEFL Score is valid for 2 years. TOFEL can be held in two formats namely ; the iBT (Internet-based Test) and PBT ( Paper-Based Test). The format you take depends on the location of your Exams Center.

GRE

This is a special test for business students. GRE stands for Graduate Record Examination and it is a standardized test which measures the Verbal, Mathematical and General Analytic Skills of a Candidate. To evaluate your readiness for Graduate-Level work business schools use GRE scores. Students who wish to go to the United States to pursue a course in Engineering and the Sciences must be ready to take the GRE.

SAT

Another Standardized Test for college admissions is The SAT; Scholastic Assessment Test or Scholastic Aptitude Test. It is required for admission into most US Universities if you have not completed an equivalent. The College Board of The United States of America developed and owns the SAT. The test comes in two formats; The Subject Test to test a candidate’s knowledge in a Particular Test and The Reasoning Test to check the overall Writing Skills and Grammar of a candidate. It is writing on the first Saturdays of January, March, May, June, October, November,and December. The SAT is offered seven times a year in the USA. Other Countries follow the same format, though.

MCAT and LSAT

To get into Medicine and Law in the USA you need to take the MCAT or the LSAT. The Law School Admission Council administers the LSAT for International Students who wish to pursue a career in law in Canada, USA, and Australia.The MCAT, on the other hand, is a Multiple-Choice Test used to evaluate candidates knowledge about relevant subjects.
