On the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea is Lithuania a country that shares borders with the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Poland, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. With Vilnius as its Capital, Lithuania is an ideal location for studies abroad because it has seen a rise in economic growth lately.

International students who want to apply for Bachelor Education generally need to have completed Secondary Education. For a masters program, however, the Applicant must have completed a Bachelor Degree.

High Education Standard

The Standard of Education can be compared to that of Italy in the sense that The country signed up to the Bologna declaration in the Italian city of Bologna. To measure the amount of higher education credits the Bologna System uses the European Credit. International students from outside of the EU coming to Lithuania to study for Bachelors, Masters or P.h.D need a residence permit.Prior to departure, they can apply for one at the Lithuanian embassy in their home country.

Do you need a visa?

The citizens of 74 recognized countries do not require a visa to enter the country
Citizens of other countries need to apply for a Schengen visa or a National visa at Diplomatic Missions or Lithuanian Consulates. You can also apply for the temporary residence permit there too. There will be a charge for the issue of a visa.

Types of visas:

• A Schengen visa for visits of less than 90 days in 180 days period;
• A National visa (D) for visits of between three months and a year.
If you are a citizen of a country that requires a visa you must apply for the National visa (D) and temporary residence permit. You can apply for the temporary residence permit at the Lithuanian embassy along with the National visa (D), or you can do this once you arrive in Lithuania.
